Flores Neighborhood Library
The Flores Neighborhood Library at 110 North Milby is east of IH45 and Scott Street. This neighborhood library offers free wireless access to customers. Laptop checkout is available for in-house use and there is free computer training. Other offerings are English as a Second Language classes at all levels and movies for teens, as well as story-time, games, and activities for young children that emphasize the development of motor skills and prepares them for reading. The neighborhood library is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, and 12 noon to 6 p.m. on Thursday and Saturday. The library is well-used by residents who will benefit from art at their facility.
Artist Opportunity
The Houston Public Library is seeking a mural or wall based artwork to be incorporated into two 4'X 8' thru-wall niches, one of which is on the front West facing wall and the second is on the North facing wall. Both walls are on the outside of the building. The building is Spanish style, built in the 1980s and was recently renovated.

Prospectus for Commissioning Artworks for the Houston Public Library
Houston Public Library and the Houston Arts Alliance seek artists to provide artwork at the Flores Neighborhood Library.
The artwork(s) should: Create excitement and interest for the community; Augment activities at the Library and Celebrate the impact the Flores Neighborhood Library has on the community
The artwork must be durable, low maintenance, and appropriate to the location. Artists should take into consideration the pedestrian traffic, light source, and lack of temperature control when designing the artwork.
Works in a variety of media and forms will be considered. Examples of media include but are not limited to: mosaics, paint, wood, metal, stone and photography. Although the City of Houston and HAA do not endorse restrictions on artistic content, the Artist Selection Panel will consider the building’s users in making their selection.
Budget
Flores Neighborhood Library $71,250 all inclusive
The budget covers all costs associated with the project including but not limited to: artist’s design fee, travel, materials, fabrication costs, liability insurance, documentation, and transportation and installation of the work.
